CRUISING

Interested in joining other Cruising Enthusiasts?

The RHYC Cruisers consist of members, most of whom are boat owners of cruising sail and power boats of all classes.

If you're a new or existing member of the Club and would like to join a welcoming group, or if you would be interested in helping to organize a cruising event, contact Rick and Debbie McQuin via the Club Manager, Cruising Chairpersons for 2009. They will answer any questions that you may have and would be pleased to introduce you to cruising sailors or have a member accompany you on your first cruise and introduce you to a very welcoming group.

Recent Cruising Destinations

The RHYC cruising group arranges a number of cruises per season. Recently they have visited Niagara-on-the-Lake (great destination for Niagara Peninsula, Niagara Falls and Wine Country), Oakville (Old Oakville provides a relaxing walking destination with great restaurants), Port Dalhousie (close to the Henley Regatta Course and refurbished water front restaurant district), Fifty Point (a marina set in a Halton Region conservation area), Toronto (several clubs offer reciprocity and make this a great City destination for theatre and much more) and many others. Going with the cruising group makes an overnight cruise that much more enjoyable, not to mention the wine and cheese parties we host to meet new friends and chat about sailing and all things nautical.

The Cruising Enthusiasts consists of Members of the Club who are interested in organizing cruising activities throughout the year (In the winter months some members have organized cruises to meet in the BVI and destinations offshore). Other events such as The Easter Seals Regatta provide members with an opportunity to support the community and provide an enjoyable sail around Hamilton Bay and create a special day for children. It's a great way to be involved in the club, cruising and creating community spirit.

RHYC Cruising Objectives are to provide:

- Cruising programme activities and events for owners of cruising sail and power boats;
- Local insight and applied knowledge of The Great Lakes, its harbours, marinas and reciprocal destination facilities for cruising sailors;
- Coordinated communications for cruising sailors in Club events and affairs;
- Recognition of Cruising Members achievements in special sailing activities.

RHYC CRUISES FOR 2011

It’s time to mark your calendars for the upcoming RHYC Cruises. We have three cruises this year.

Saturday, July 16, 2011
Oakville Yacht Squadron

Having not visited Oakville for several years makes it a good place to start the season.
It is a short sail that is perfect for new cruisers and the lovely lawn at OYS is for a perfect venue for cocktail hour.

Saturday & Sunday, July 30/31, 2011 (Civic Holiday Weekend)
National Yacht Club

We have never cruised to National Yacht Club from RHYC or not at least in the last 10 years. Compared to any yacht club,
NYC offers the best access to downtown Toronto. Take in a Blue Jay Game, go to the theatre or visit St. Lawrence Market,
they are all within walking distance of NYC.

Saturday & Sunday, Sept. 3/4, 2011 (Labour Day Weekend)
Ashbridges Bay Yacht Club

Finally, we have the Labour Day Long Weekend at ABYC. It has almost become a tradition that our Labour Day Weekend Cruise includes the Toronto Air Show and 2011 will be no different.

We are doing something a little different this year: Doug and Janice Clark have volunteered to co ordinate the National Yacht Club Cruise, while Michael and Dianne Cox have volunteered to co ordinate the Ashbridges Bay Yacht Club Cruise. Debbie and I will handle the Oakville Yacht Squadron Cruise.

Sign-up for the cruises can be done one of two ways this year. You can register on the “sign-up” sheet that will be available in the Clubhouse or you can email each of the cruise co coordinators directly and they will register you.
Rick McQuin – OYS Cruiserickmcquin@gmail.com
Doug Clark – National Yacht Club Cruisedoug.clark260@gmail.com
Michael Cox – ABYC Cruiseahoymichaelcox@gmail.com

When emailing please include: Your name, Boat Name, Boat Length, Boat Beam, and cell number.

Please ensure that everyone registers by the Tuesday before each cruise so that the list of boats can be
supplied to the club that is being visited.

As the cruise dates get closer the Cruising Coordinators will be letting
everyone know what social event has been organized.

If you have any questions regarding any of the cruises please do not hesitate to contact myself, Doug or Michael.
